Royal Academy Summer Show 09

I went to see the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition today, which continues the tradition of displaying a wide range of new work by both established and unknown artists in all media including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture and architecture. The printmaking room is the best, but the diversity of work on show makes this well worth the £7 entrance fee. It was Donald Hamilton, whose work I had not seen before, that really stood out to me.

Richard Diebenkorn

I first became aware of Richard Diebenkorn in my second year at college. I had a fantastic tutor who gave me a book about his work that I subsequently failed to return for at least two years. Diebenkorn's Ocean Park series still continues to inspire and excite me to this day.

Il Lee

I hadn't heard of Il Lee until I saw his work in a magazine yesterday. Using only ballpoint pens, his abstract drawings are pretty amazing.

My friend Chris Johnson is a good guy. He's also a big skateboard head, so I made him a card for his Birthday.
